Growing up with a severe spinal deformity in rural Uganda, Sarah’s world was limited to the confines of her home. As she grew older, moving from one place to another became increasingly difficult, forcing her to depend entirely on family members to carry her. Simple activities such as attending school, visiting friends, or participating in community life seemed impossible.
Everything changed when she received a wheelchair specifically designed to navigate rough rural terrain through a disability inclusion initiative supported by CeDIRI. For the first time, Sarah could move independently throughout her village.
The impact was immediate and life-changing. She returned to school, reconnected with her peers, and began participating actively in community activities. More importantly, she regained confidence, dignity, and control over her own life.
Today, Sarah is pursuing her education and inspiring other girls with disabilities to believe in their potential. Her story demonstrates how access to assistive devices can unlock opportunities, restore independence, and transform lives.
